David Evans was one of the two men who sadly died in the incident at the weekend

The family of a father who tragically died in a crash in East Yorkshire last weekend have paid tribute to “the craziest, funniest man you could ever meet” who had “the biggest heart”. David Evans, 55, was sadly killed in the incident on the A614, in the Holme-on-Spalding-Moor area, on Sunday (January 18).

He was travelling in a blue Land Rover at around 9.55pm with 27-year-old Patrick Shaughnessy who also died at the scene. It was travelling northbound from Howden when it was involved in a collision with a white Ford Transit van that was heading in the opposite direction, police say.

The driver of the van was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries “that are believed to be life changing”.

David’s family have released a tribute, saying: “Dave, known to so many as Devis, was my whole world. He was my rock, my soulmate, and my best friend. He wanted to get married this year and had big plans for us, and with his children.

“Dave had an infectious aura and could light up any room the moment he walked in. It was impossible not to love him.

“He had the biggest heart and was the craziest, funniest man you could ever meet. No matter how bad your day was, Dave would always find a way to make you laugh.

“He adored his children, Joe, Libby, Dominic and Josh with every inch of his being. They were his absolute pride and joy.

“We are all utterly destroyed by what has happened. Dave meant the world to everyone who knew him, and no one will ever replace him.”
