Mountaineer Bradley Guiness has created a climbing brand dedicated to charitable endeavours
A Hull dad who takes on mountaineering adventures to help worthy causes is delighted to have supported a local mental health charity this year, to the tune of over £2,300. Bradley Guiness founded his own climbing brand last October – The Humber Mountaineering Community – with the aim of dedicating activities to a specific charity each year.
Bradley said: “In 2026 we decided to go with the Hull and East Yorkshire Mind charity. This was down to a lot of people reaching out to us, wondering if we would dedicate ourselves to this charity and for them to partake in our climbs as well.
“A lot of our volunteers who have joined us on the climbs throughout this campaign have either used the charity in the past to help them personally, or they’ve known someone who has struggled with their mental health. We therefore completed two climbs and one mountaineering challenge – Whernside, Ben Nevis and The Yorkshire 3 Peak Challenge – raising a total of £2,303.75.”
Bradley, whose day job is working for an IT company in the city, has also seen his son, Noah, celebrate his second birthday this year. “He’s already been on one climb with me but he slept all the way through it.”
Prior to setting up The Humber Mountaineering Community, a voluntary and non-profit organisation, Bradley’s own journey into mountaineering had begun in 2021 and the newly-sparked interest saw him and others partake in 65 climbs, across seven countries. “Also, prior to the brand creation, we had raised money for other charities including Humber Rescue, Hull Foodbank, Hull4Heroes, Hey Smile, Stroke Association, Alzheimer’s Society plus many more. In total we have raised up to £7,000 for charities,” Bradley said.

“Every year we’re going to commit ourselves to a particular charity, either for personal reasons or because someone reaches out to us, and we’ll arrange several climbs throughout the year towards it. We are now in talks with our next charity as we prepare for our 2027 campaign, for Chasing Rainbows in Hull.
“We’ll be preparing three climbs across 2027 to help raise as much money as possible for the charity – we usually try to get the winter months out of the way, so we’ll probably do one in March, then another in the summer and one in the autumn. Probably about 20 people have come along on the climbs this year, a combination of people from across all the clubs and different activities communities, two of them this year being Hike & Soul, an all-female outdoor company, and Wala Wellbeing.
“We welcome anyone, from all walks of life, and we have had people whose ages range from ten years upwards. It’s a real mix, anyone can come along if it’s safe for them to do so.
“I’d like to think people will start looking out for us – I do think we stand out because we’re a bit different, helping charities as a climbing community. And if you are a local charity, we’d like to hear from you and we’ll help where we can.” You can find out more on The Humber Mountaineering Community’s Instagram page.
