The nine year-old rabbit – who requires regular medication – was found in a car park in Temple Street with owner Amy saying “it could have been so much worse”

Moment pet rabbit is taken away by two men in Hull

The owner of Peter the pet rabbit – who was seen on CCTV being carried away from his Hull home yesterday – has told of her delight at his return. Amy Grace had discovered, to her horror, footage of the nine year-old rabbit being carried away by his ears from beside her property on St Pauls Street.

The mum-of-two had popped to the shops and returned to find Peter gone – sparking a frantic search for the beloved pet. And not long after Hull Live had reported the upsetting episode, Amy has been reunited with Peter.

“Somebody had picked him up last night. He’d been dumped on Temple Street, in a car park,” explained Amy. “Thankfully they picked him up and took him inside and then saw my posts this morning and contacted me to come and get him.”

Amy, who had been distraught, said Peter is OK and has been checked over by a vet. Thankfully she was able to get him the gut stasis medicine he requires three times a day just in time.

She added: “Thankfully he’s alright. His gut stasis is a little worse. His belly was massive and really inflamed so we’ve got him home and given him his medication in time.

“He’s had kisses and cuddles, and the cat and dog have been all over him.”

Peter’s ordeal began when two unknown people were seen to have carried him away down the street – one filming the episode as they went. Amy, her brother and her two children, launched a search and appeal for the beloved pet, who has lived with them for eight years.

They were told there was an attempt to sell Peter to a neighbour, who assumed he was a wild rabbit and had not realised it was the family pet. Amy, who has thanked everybody who shared and commented on her posts about missing Peter, had also been in touch with Humberside Police.

She hopes the people can be found and reprimanded, saying “It was just so wrong what they did and it could have been so much worse”.
