The playmaker has been through the wringer since joining Hull FC

Will Pryce’s time at Hull FC hasn’t exactly gone to plan so far, it’s fair to say.

The playmaker joined FC from Newcastle Knights in early 2025, but after just eight games under John Cartwright, he was ruled out with a significant hamstring injury.

Pryce returned in August but a broken foot, sustained in a clash with Leigh Leopards at the MKM Stadium, saw his first year in East Yorkshire come to a frustrating end.

The 2026 season brought hope and optimism with a fit again Pryce hoping to make his mark. He played relatively well in the season opener against hometown club Bradford Bulls too, but catastrophe struck when he hit the deck in the final minutes of the round two clash with Wigan Warriors.

He was helped off the field and the resulting scan confirmed FC’s initial fears with the full-back being ruled out for the season with a ruptured ACL.

Indeed, Pryce has been through the wringer over the last 18 months or so and such an injury record must come with its mental challenges, too.

However, he has been working hard on his recovery over the last few months. The 23-year-old has been spotted regularly using a public gym in his spare time and that hard work has continued into the off-season, with the Yorkshireman appearing to do all he can to tick the boxes he needs to in order to make a successful return to the field of play.

Hull will be careful with him and it remains to be seen whether he will be fit enough to get a full pre-season of training under his belt with Steve McNamara.

One thing is for certain, though, Pryce is preparing for the biggest year of his career to date as he bids to leave his injury woes behind him and kick on.

With Bailey Hodgson arriving to take the full-back spot, Pryce is expected to take on the stand-off role next season. It’s the position he was initially signed to play and while he is versatile, it’s arguably his best position, too, with his running game and creativity in the line being perfectly suited to six.

He couldn’t have wished for a better half-back partner either, with Daly Cherry-Evans set to pull the strings, lead Hull around the field and provide a cool head in every scenario.

The former Huddersfield Giants man will be given the opportunity to run off the senior man then and do what he does best all over the field.

There’s no doubt about it, next season could be the making of Pryce and as McNamara attempts to lead FC back towards to top, he’ll be central to his plans.
