Tim Iroegbunam has handed Sergej Jakirovic a significant fitness boost ahead of a potential reunion with former club Everton on Sunday.

Iroegbunam suffered a problem in the second half of the defeat at Newcastle United before the international break and had been expected to be sidelined for around a month, before a return at Fulham next weekend had been penciled in. The influential midfielder returned to full training ahead of schedule on Friday and could feature in the squad against the Toffees, who he left in the summer to join the Tigers.

Boss Jakirovic revealed how there were genuine concerns that the 23-year-old had suffered a serious knee injury at St James’ Park, but mercifully, it was only a slight knee strain and therefore he has recovered in record time. Elsewhere, Morita and Brooke Norton-Cuffy are both back in training and are likely to be in the Sunday’s squad.

Unlike some of their Premier League rivals, City have come out of the three-week international break unscathed, with all their players returning without any problems aside from a little fatigue. Elliot Stroud missed Sweden’s final two Nations League games after a virus swept through the camp, but he’s reported back without any issues and has trained.

Striker Iliad Ansah, who is yet to feature since arriving from Union Berlin in the summer, is set to undergo another scan on his back injury to determine the severity of that. It’s hoped if there is good news from the scan, he could be back in training within a couple of weeks.
