Hull FC bound Daly Cherry-Evans will play in the NRL Grand Final next Sunday after leading Sydney Roosters to a 36-20 preliminary final victory over the Dolphins this Friday.

Signing for the Roosters ahead of the 2026 season, Cherry-Evans has played an influential role all season and will now end his NRL career at Sydney’s Accor Stadium against either Penrith Panthers or Newcastle Knights on October 4.

Producing a try assist for Daniel Tupou in the first half, the 37-year-old, who will be 38 in February, rolled back the years once again for the Chooks, who produced a stunning performance to defeat the Brisbane-based side at Suncorp Stadium.

The half-back, who had a hand in more second half tries with his kicking game coming to the fore again, followed on from last week’s solid Player of the Match account against Cronulla Sharks, where he scored one try and assisted three more in a huge 46-10 victory.

And now the Aussie star will get the fitting end his long NRL career deserves at the big dance, with the Roosters hunting a first Premiership victory since the 2019 season.

Of course, Cherry-Evans, who prior to this year played his entire career with Manly Sea Eagles, has signed a one-year deal at Hull for the 2027 season in one of the club’s most high-profile moves ever.

A former Kangaroo international with Australia, the half-back will now play one more game Down Under on the biggest stage before linking up with the Black and Whites for pre-season training in November.

He will be joined by fellow Australia-based players Jordan Swann, Josh Coric, and Roosters team-mate Junior Paula, with Hull also signing Bailey Hodgson, Isaac Liu, Alrix Da Costa, and Connor Barley.
