Joe Burgess will continue his career with Catalans Dragons after penning a two-year deal from the 2027 Super League season.
The 31-year-old had been contracted at Hull KR for next year, but a transfer to the south of France has been agreed ahead of Nathan Cayless’ arrival to succeed Willie Peters at Sewell Group Craven Park.
Burgess, who progressed through Wigan Warriors’ youth systems before making his first-team debut in 2013, scored 65 tries in 74 appearances for Hull KR across a successful three-year deal.
He played an influential role in the club’s record-breaking 2025 campaign, scoring twice at Old Trafford to secure a domestic treble with a win over Wigan.
Burgess later crossed the whitewash in Rovers’ dramatic World Club Challenge victory over Brisbane Broncos in February to claim a clean sweep of trophies.
“I’m grateful and excited for the opportunity to join the Catalans Dragons and to do my job in a different country,” Burgess said.
He becomes Catalans’ seventh new signing for 2027, behind Jesse Arthars, Tyson Gamble, Luciano Leilua, Amir Bourouh, Luca Walsh and Arthur Romano.
Meanwhile, the club has bid farewell to a host of players, including retiring duo Ben Garcia and Tommy Makinson.
Alrix Da Costa ( Hull FC ), Solomona Faataape (St Helens), Toby Sexton (Perth Bears), Kruise Leeming (loan ending), Matty Russell (TBC), Josh Simm (TBC), Edenn Rogers-Smith (Leeds) and Nick Cotric (Leeds) have also left the club.
On his latest signing, Catalans head coach John Cartwright commented: “Joe Burgess is a proven match winner in Super League – a genuine try-scorer and try-saver. He brings experience and speed.”
