City’s marine attraction is running the public tours as part of Heritage Open Days

Following on from the popularity of last year’s fully booked sessions, The Deep in Hull is once again opening its rooftop for public tours as part of the annual Heritage Open Days (HODs) programme. HODs is England’s largest festival of history and culture.

Each September sees a variety of buildings, homes and attractions open their doors, offering the chance to see hidden places and try out new experiences – all of which are free to explore. The Deep said: “We are excited to be involved for the second year in this fantastic programme, offering an exclusive opportunity to step onto the roof of one of Hull’s most iconic attractions.”

The tours are taking place on Friday and Saturday, September 18 and 19. Both days will see rooftop tours running every 30 minutes between 10am and 2pm, a total of eight tours per day.

Visitors can take in normally unseen panoramic views over the city of Hull and the Humber estuary. At the same time they will learn more about The Deep’s history as one of the UK’s most successful Millennium Projects, as well as uncovering details about the aquarium’s unique architecture.

The entry in the HODs brochure about The Deep says: “Step onto the roof of one of Hull’s most iconic attractions, The Deep. Enjoy an exclusive opportunity to take in miles of stunning views over the city of Hull and the Humber estuary.”

Pre-booking is essential via The Deep’s website. The tours allow six people at a time and are suitable for those over 16 and the roof is only accessible via stairs.

The Deep officially opened its doors on March 23, 2002 and exceeded all expectations when it attracted over 850,000 visitors in its first year. By the time it marked its 20th anniversary in 2022, The Deep was on course to welcome its nine-millionth visitor.
