Chris John says he has created a facility for everyone who wants to invest in their health, not just sportspeople
A rugby physiotherapist who until recently was treating the stars of Hull FC has expanded his Hull clinic with the launch of a new recovery facility. Chris John was head physiotherapist at Hull FC when he started Rehab & Recover with the aim to make high calibre healthcare, physiotherapy and performance services accessible to everyone, not just athletes.
The National Avenue-based centre is kitted out with a range of equipment including ForceDecks for analysis of neuromuscular strength and imbalance, a rehabilitation gym, AirBands for occlusion training and Compex muscle stimulators. Having grown to become Chris’ full time job, the venue has now expanded with the launch of recovery centre, R:Haus.
Planning of the centre started a year ago when the physiotherapy aspect of the business was launched. Now, thousands of pounds have been invested into space at the premises to create what Chris says is the city’s first dedicated guided recovery studio.
“I wanted to put a recovery centre in Hull. For me, it’s not just about looking after your injury, it’s about trying to prevent it as well. There’s nothing else in Hull like it,” explained Chris, who spent about five years in the role at Hull FC.
An ice bath and infrared sauna have come from the Hull showroom of Outdoor Living thanks a partnership. There is also red light therapy and recovery boots equipment for customers.
Three new jobs have been created in the move including two physiotherapists and a sports therapist – making a team of ten overall. Thanks to Chris’ connections the centre has already welcomed a number of Hull FC and Hull KR players including Mikey Lewis. But he he has stressed the facility is for anybody to use.
He added: “We’ve got the sports element, which is the recovery side of it but we also have people coming in for their own wellbeing. They might want to feel better and they have an opportunity to use a relatively private space. From a members point of view, a maximum of three people are allowed in the room, which is very clean and tidy. And a therapist is in the room with them, guiding them on how they can recover better.”
He added: “The team behind Rehab & Recover hope R:HAUS will change the way people think about recovery, making it just as important as training itself. Recovery is no longer reserved for elite sport.
“Whether you train regularly, work long hours, or simply want to invest in your health, guided recovery offers an opportunity to slow down, reset and perform at your best.”
Trial sessions are available for those interested in R:Haus, which discounts against the first month’s membership for those joining up within seven days of their session.
