‘Albemarle Music Centre is at the heart of Hull’s Music Hub and a hugely popular and accessible facility’
Part of Hull’s musical hub, the Albermarle Music Centre, could soon get a refurbishment. Planned works would include re-rendering of the Albemarle’s distinctive ‘cone’ as well as other improvements to the entrance doors and the building’s heating and ventilation system.
Hull City Council will consider investment proposals for the centre, which is known as the home of Hull Music Service and the flagship cultural asset of the city’s Music Hub. The council’s cabinet will work to find a contractor for the facility.
The council said the works will safeguard a key cultural asset for the city, while reducing carbon emissions and energy use. This will contribute to the council’s sustainability goals and enhance indoor air quality for those that use it.
The council believes Albemarle Music Centre is “key to delivering the city’s ambition of becoming a UNESCO Creative City of Music”. The investment will help safeguard the building, which provides somewhere for children, young people and vulnerable groups to meet and learn.
Cllr Jackie Dad, deputy leader of Hull City Council, said: “Albemarle Music Centre is at the heart of Hull’s Music Hub and a hugely popular and accessible facility. It is key to ensuring that the city maintains it strong cultural identity, whilst also helping it to reach its ambitions.” If proposals are approved, services will continue in temporary alternative premises, the council said.
