Hull City fans can dream about qualifying for Europe – but that doesn’t change the Tigers’ number one priority this season.
That’s according to Fraizer Campbell who is relishing in City’s incredible start to life in the Premier League, in which they remain unbeaten after four games and have taken points off Manchester United, Aston Villa and Chelsea.
Indeed Sergej Jakirovic’s team have played with such energy and organisation they are sitting fourth in the embryonic table.
That’s not worth much just a month into the campaign but the points on the board are and former Tigers striker Campbell, who scored 33 goals in 114 games spread over two spells at MKM Stadium, has praised his former team.
“There was all that controversy over the play-offs, but they managed to put all that away and secure it. I was actually at the game when they secured the play-offs, and then to start the season like this, they’re on fire,” Campbell said.
“They’ve got that adrenaline still running, and everyone’s excited. A lot of the team will have never played in the Premier League before. Some of them have, and they’ll be desperate to stay there.
“They couldn’t have dreamt of a better start and it’s working out really well at the minute. But they’ve just got to keep adding points while they’re still confident, because it’s going to get to a stage where they’ll lose a game or two, and then you’ll see the difficulties of the Premier League.
So far, so good, and I hope they continue doing really well.”
As for the prospect of the Tigers going on their travels next season he told Boyle Sports : “Hull in Europe? It’s not impossible. They’ll be looking at Sunderland, who did a similar thing, so it’s not out of reach for them. You’ve just got to stay consistent.
“They’ve signed well and started well, so they need to keep going and see where it takes them. If they get into Europe, that would be a fantastic end to the season.
“Having said that, I think they’ll primarily look to stay in the league and finish mid-table or slightly above relegation. That’ll be the dream, and they’ll see where it takes them.”
