Hull FC will bid farewell to their Wembley winning captain for a second time.
Hull FC have confirmed that several members of their performance staff will leave the club at the end of the 2026 season – including back-to-back Challenge Cup winning captain Gareth Ellis.
As previously reported by Hull Live, Ellis is set for new role within rugby league next season, and leaves the club for a second time. His most recent title with Hull was Director of Rugby & Wellbeing, with the legendary player taking on numerous coaching and off-field roles within the club since retiring in 2020.
Assistant coach Simon Grix will also move on to Castleford Tigers in 2027, as recently confirmed by the West Yorkshire club. Grix was the club’s interim coach in 2024 and has served the last two years as an assistant to John Cartwright and then interim coach Andy Last.
Elsewhere, Head of Physical Performance Tom Bennett will depart after over a decade of service to the club. Bennett is one of the club’s longest-serving members of staff and was involved in the 2016 and 2017 Challenge Cup successes.
Head Physiotherapist Andy Shea, Sports Scientist Will Witter, and Strength & Conditioning Coach Jon Humby will all also depart the club, while physiotherapist Sami Ghanem departed the club earlier in the summer
A club statement read: “The club pays its thanks to each and every departing member of the performance department for their efforts during their respective spells, and we wish them all the very best of luck for their futures.”
Hull’s performance changes have been well-documented in recent times, with Hull Live first reporting the appointments of new conditioner Jimmy McDaniel from Hull KR and former club physiotherapist Dave Ferguson from Leeds Rhinos. Another physiotherapist, Nathan Mill, will also joined the club from St Helens, with former player Scott Taylor also appointed to work under incoming head coach Steve McNamara as an assistant coach.
