Adam Rogers will run his third Great North Run, raising funds for Hull 4 Heroes and Martin’s family

A trio of friends will lace up their running shoes and undertake the Great North Run in memory of Hull veteran Martin Chadburn who died following an alleged assault in April. Adam Rogers will run his third Great North Run this year – this time raising funds for Hull 4 Heroes and the Martin Chadburn Foundation. Adam will team up with his friends Liam Newman and Lee Thompson who will run alongside him.
Adam said: “We didn’t know Martin personally but were touched by what happened to him. We thought we’d try and raise money for his family and go again.” The money raised by the trio’s fundraising efforts will be split between Hull4Heros, charities in memory of Martin, and Martin’s family.
Five people are currently awaiting trial accused of murdering Martin on April 19 this year. The 53-year-old served for nine years in the British Army with both the Duke of Wellington’s Regiment and the Prince of Wales’s Regiment. More recently he worked as a Health & Wellbeing Officer at the Hull-based veterans’ charity.
The fundraising page has surpassed its initial £600 target and the total currently sits just shy of £2,000. Adam said: “Lee set up the fundraising page and he set that target thinking we wouldn’t raise that much. We couldn’t believe how much we’ve raised, now we want to push it a bit more. The race is on Sunday 13 September and all three of us are training a lot. I know them through football and we have been friends for years. Last year, I did it by myself, then I put a message out on my friends Whatsapp group and these two stepped up, fair play to them.”
A spokesperson for Hull 4 Heroes said: “Adam is a great friend of Hull 4 Heroes and we are really proud that he and his friends have chosen to run and raise funds in honour of our great friend and colleague Martin Chadburn.”
