Hull City stunned Manchester United with a 2-0 victory at the MKM Stadium, with captain Bruno Fernandes urging his teammates to be more aggressive and stop repeating the same mistakes

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes called on his team-mates to show greater intensity following the Reds’ 2-0 defeat to Hull City at the MKM Stadium. United were outplayed by the newly-promoted Tigers and fell behind after 17 minutes.
Oli McBurnie’s effort drew a fine save from Senne Lammens, but the loose ball dropped perfectly for Semi Ajayi to hammer home.
With United struggling, Hull doubled their advantage. Regan Slater’s free-kick was steered in by Nobel Mendy on his debut.
The Reds tried to mount a comeback in the second period. Marcus Rashford showed promise and Bryan Mbeumo created a couple of chances, but they failed to seriously trouble the home side who deservedly won with a clean sheet.
Speaking to Premier League Productions after the match, Fernandes criticised United’s display. “Same mistakes as we did last season every away game,” he said, reports the Manchester Evening News.
“We give too much of the ball to them, in the first 20 minutes the goalkeeper had more touches on the ball, too much time.
“We need to press a little bit more, be more aggressive, and set-plays – we need to work on it, to be more aggressive and try not to concede these types of goals. We knew before the game that [set-pieces] would be a big part of their game.
“They played a full pre-season with a back four. They went against us with a back five, also to have some height, also for these moments because they could get a chance from it and defend well from our set-pieces. The most frustrating thing is that we lost the game.”
Following the final whistle, Michael Carrick commented: “Some was okay, bits to improve on. It was never going to be perfect today but going behind and giving ourselves a lot to do makes it more difficult.
“With a promoted team at home, we can’t give them much. We had moments but not that spark to put the chances away. We’re bitterly disappointed with the result today but it won’t knock us.”
