Hull City owner Acun Ilicali has hit back at disappointing comments about the club and city, describing them as laughable

Acun Ilicali has called out Carlton Cole and Joe Cole for their comments about Hull City.

The pair of players-turned-pundits have caused controversy for their comments about City, with the latter saying “they came in through the back door”. He also claimed that his employers, TNT Sports: “tried to slip in the Hull one for the first game of the season, I put my phone on ‘do not disturb.”

It has since been claimed that the broadcaster neither booked Cole nor planned to do so for Saturday’s match against Manchester United. Ilicali has now hit back after their comments online.

In a post on X, the club’s owner has said: “It is disappointing to see my beautiful city criticised by people who should know better. As a club, we are used to being underestimated, and we enjoy it, and we enjoyed it more when we were promoted last season.

“The true beauty of a place is in its people, and that’s why, for me, Hull is one of the most beautiful places in the world.

“For me, seeing two ex-players making fun of a deservedly promoted club is more laughable than the things they were laughing at.”

Cole began his rant on the Dressing Room podcast by saying: “Hull are gone, man. I’ll be stunned if they stayed up, they came in through the back door.
