The East Yorkshire country house has issued an ‘important notice’ about the ‘fake’ listing

An East Yorkshire country house has warned about an “unauthorised” Halloween event listing. Burton Constable Hall, near Skirlaugh, was made aware of a website called hauntedhalloweenescape.co.uk advertising an event called Constable After Dark, claimed to be taking place at the country house from October 20 to November 1.
The visitor attraction does hold events, including open-air cinema screenings, Last Night of the Proms and Christmas concerts. Back in 2017, it also hosted Radio 1’s Big Weekend and was recently the venue for the East Yorkshire Half-Marathon. However, the stately home and parkland is not behind Constable After Dark. The company advertising the event said there had been “confusion on our end regarding the listing” and had since removed it.
In a public post, a spokesperson for Burton Constable Hall said: “We have been made aware of a website advertising an event titled ‘Constable After Dark’, which claims to be taking place at Burton Constable Hall from 20th October to 1st November 2026. We would like to make it clear that this event has not been organised, authorised or approved by Burton Constable Hall or the Burton Constable Foundation and will not be taking place at Burton Constable.
“We have had no involvement in the organisation of this event and have not given permission for Burton Constable Hall and Parkland to be used as its venue. The listing contains detailed references to Burton Constable, our buildings, collections and grounds, as well as statements which may give the impression that the event has been planned in consultation with our team. This is not the case.
“We are taking appropriate action regarding the unauthorised listing and have contacted those responsible requesting its immediate removal. We strongly advise visitors not to purchase tickets for ‘Constable After Dark’ at Burton Constable.
“If you have already purchased tickets for this event through a third-party website, please be aware that the booking was not made with Burton Constable Hall or the Burton Constable Foundation. We recommend contacting the company you purchased the tickets from and your payment provider for further advice.
“All genuine events taking place at Burton Constable Hall and Parkland can be found on our official website and are promoted through our official social media channels.”
Burton Constable Hall said it reported the “fake” event to Humberside Police after becoming aware of it. It had also taken steps to contact the Temple Newsam estate, in Leeds, to alert it to a listing for them that was also spotted on the hauntedhalloweenescape.co.uk website.
A spokesperson for Burton Constable Hall said: “We noticed that there were a number of other venues across the UK listed on the same website with what appeared to be fake events. One of those venues was Temple Newsam, so we got in touch with them directly to make them aware that they were also being advertised on the website.
“Since my last email to the company, in which I told them that we were taking the matter to the police, their website has gone down and is now showing as being under maintenance. Our chief executive, Alasdair Hutson, is dealing with the matter and taking it forward.”
In an email chain seen by Hull Live, Burton Constable Hall asked Haunted Halloween Escape to “immediately remove the ‘Constable After Dark’ event from your website and cease all ticket sales”, among other stipulations, and requested an urgent response. Haunted Halloween Escape wrote: “We had emailed your team a few weeks ago to seek permission for an agreement, so there was some confusion on our end regarding the listing. Since we have not received a response and do not plan to go ahead, we have removed everything.”
The company said it had removed the Constable After Dark listing, along with any reference to Burton Constable Hall, from its website and social media. The listing had been added recently and so “zero tickets were sold and no money was collected, therefore, no refunds are needed”, it said.
The Haunted Halloween Escape website is showing: “Site is undergoing maintenance. Maintenance mode is on. Site will be available soon. Thank you for your patience.”
