Hull City have held talks with Nottingham Forest over striking a loan deal for Dilane Bakwa. The 23-year-old winger is out of favour at the City Ground and has been told he can leave the club by new boss Oliver Glasner.
It’s understood City held talks with Forest and Bakwa over the weekend, with a view to the Frenchman coming in on loan for the season.
Despite being told he can leave, Bakwa has featured in pre-season and made a short cameo off the bench in Forest’s 2-0 win over Brest at the City Ground on Sunday afternoon which rounded off their summer campaign.
The exciting winger was a £30m signing 12 months ago when he arrived on Trentside from Strasbourg, but he struggled to make an impact, falling victim to the Reds’ Premier League struggles and the four changes in manager.
Last term Bakwa made just 14 appearances in the Premier League and City view him as a player that can add pace and attacking prowess to their ranks.
Forest are unwilling to sell Bakwa, given they paid £30m and pinned him down to a five-year contract, and are willing to let him leave on a season-long loan.
The Reds have been keen to free up space in their squad after investing heavily last summer as they prepared for their Europa League campaign which saw the City Ground club make it to the semi-finals with the French Under-21 international playing in eight of those games in Europe.
Bakwa’s teammate, striker Taiwo Awoniyi has also been allowed to move on, joining Coventry City earlier this week after spending four years in the East Midlands.
