A council survey is asking for input on new routes or for information on areas that need upgrading

Residents are being invited to share their views and suggestions about cycling and walking routes as East Riding of Yorkshire Council looks to improve facilities and encourage more people to use active transportation. The council launched a survey to find out about cycling and walking improvements people would like to see in the East Riding.
The authority is calling for people to take part in the online survey on what facilities they think are needed across the area to help cyclists and pedestrians. The survey also looks for ways to encourage more to take up those activities for regular journeys to work, school and local services. People are asked to identify new routes or paths for people who walk, wheel or cycle, areas that need upgrading or issues that need a solution.
Suggestions may include:
- a new footway/cycleway
- new road crossings for pedestrians and cyclists
- new cycle parking
- changes/improvements to an existing facility
- dropped kerbs/tactile paving
- better street lighting.
The survey website has an interactive map for people to add locations. The feedback will help the council better understand the issues experienced by residents, help contribute to decisions about upcoming schemes and support efforts to make everyday journeys safer, more accessible, and more enjoyable for everyone.
The views will help to shape the East Riding’s next Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plans (LCWIPs), which are designed to encourage more people to walk and cycle in their local communities. The council is working with Hull and East Yorkshire Combined Authority to develop investment plans for the next three years, alongside a longer-term pipeline of future schemes.
Councillor Paul West, the council’s cabinet member for environment and transport, said: “We really would love to hear from residents on what facilities they’d like to see for cyclists and pedestrians in our area, and to encourage people to ride and stride more often.”
The survey is open until Sunday, September 20.
