The grown-ups have had their fun – now a Newland Avenue venue is giving children their own version of the hugely popular bottomless brunch

Kids are taking over bottomless brunch as one Hull venue gives youngsters their own chance to enjoy the trendy way to socialise with friends. Newland Social HU5 will offer mocktails, food, sweets and treats, party dancers, games, prizes and plenty of music. The Kids Bottomless Brunch will take over the venue, which is in the upstairs space above Molly Mangan’s on Newland Avenue, on Saturday, August 29 with two 90-minute sessions for children aged seven and over.
Instead of prosecco and cocktails, there will be mocktails – but organisers Sam Laverick, Katy Burgess and Chris Holmes say they want to capture all the fun and party atmosphere that has made the grown-up version such a hit. Party dancers will get children on their feet, while there will be games and competitions with prizes to be won and a TikTok takeover giving youngsters the chance to create their own videos with help from the team.
Sam said: “Bottomless brunches have become such a massive thing for adults, so we thought, why should the grown-ups have all the fun? We wanted to take everything that makes them such a good day out – the music, food, drinks, dancing and having a laugh with your friends – and turn it into something that’s completely about the kids. It’s basically 90 minutes where they can eat, dance, play games, make videos and just have a brilliant time. We want it to feel like their own big day out.”
The idea grew out of an earlier children’s event held in the upstairs venue when it was known as Vox Box, where entertainers led games, dancing and karaoke for youngsters. The response gave the team the idea of developing the format further – this time turning it into a full kids’ bottomless brunch with food, mocktails, party games, dancing and activities throughout the 90-minute session.
Parents are invited too – although they won’t have to buy a ticket. Adults accompanying children can enter free of charge, with space for them to relax and have a drink while the entertainment team keeps the younger guests busy.
Katy added: “It might even give the parents a bit of a break. They can come along, have a drink and relax while we do the hard work! But really, it’s about giving the kids something that feels like a proper event of their own. We want them leaving asking when the next one is.”
The brunch is being organised by Sam, Katy and Chris, with Sam and Katy also joining forces on a new children’s performing arts venture. Embrace Performing Arts will launch classes at JHS Dance School on Duesbery Street from September 26, with a 9.30am session for children aged three to five followed by a 10.30am class for those aged six and over.
Sam already runs a weekly Body Combat class at the venue, which she hires from Jack Harvey Smith Dance Company Hull. She and Katy hope their new venture can grow beyond performing arts classes into children’s parties, silent discos, tribute events and further themed bottomless brunches.
Sam said: “We’ve got loads of ideas for things we’d like to do together. We want the classes to be somewhere children can build confidence, make friends and have fun, but we’d also love to branch out into parties and different events. This brunch is a great example of the sort of thing we want to do – something really interactive where the kids are right at the heart of it.”
The Kids Bottomless Brunch takes place at Newland Social HU5 on Saturday, August 29, with sessions from 2pm to 3.30pm and 4.30pm to 6pm. Tickets cost £15 per child, with accompanying adults admitted free. All bookings must include at least one adult and the event is for children aged seven and over.
