A Bridlington man accused of murder after another man died following a disturbance in the resort has made his second court appearance. Mehmet Gundez, 24, of Flamborough Road, is charged with murdering 25-year-old Ibrahim Yesildeniz on August 10.
He was brought in custody before Hull Crown Court. He was wearing a grey long-sleeved top and grey trousers and he spoke to confirm his name and date of birth.
Prosecutor Jeremy Evans gave details to the court about the likely future progress of the case. Gundez was represented by Rachel Scott, who made no bail application. He was remanded in custody until the next hearing.
Gundez was helped in court by a Turkish-speaking interpreter. The case was adjourned until September 28 for a further hearing. A possible trial date has been fixed for November 23.
A psychiatric report has been ordered on Gundez. Judge John Thackray KC told him: “Cooperate with your legal team and the psychiatrist.”
The police were alerted at about 5.20am after reports of a stabbing outside a property in First Avenue, Bridlington. Mr Yesildeniz was taken to hospital after suffering life-threatening injuries but he later died. Both men are said to be Turkish.
Gundez had earlier appeared before Hull Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, where he was remanded in custody.
