New Hull FC signing Daly Cherry-Evans.
Sydney Roosters head coach Trent Robinson has given a telling verdict on new Hull FC signing Daly Cherry-Evans following an inspirational display against Penrith Panthers on Thursday night.
Cherry-Evans, who has signed a one-year with the Black and Whites for the 2027 season, scored two tries in the 12-6 victory, scoring the winner late on as the Roosters moved to the top of the NRL table.
And Robinson believes that form, with Cherry-Evans ever-present this year, is no co-incidence, with the way the 37-year-old prepares for every game a true reflection of the player and his leadership and professionalism.
“To score two running plays as a half in a 12-6 game,” Robinson said. “I don’t know how many tackles he made but he was exceptional in defence, and he kicked the ball long.
“I talk about external motivation but to watch someone just care about the way that he plays the game and goes about it, he deserved tonight.
“He was by far the best player on the field. And he just kept going and kept going. I’ve loved watching him play tonight but I love watching him prepare each day.”
Meanwhile, Wests Tigers coach Benji Marshall, one of the best half-backs the NRL has ever seen, has also paid tribute to Cherry-Evans after confirmation of his move to Hull FC.
“I’ve got a lot of respect for Daly, as a player, as a person,” Marshall said. “What he’s done for the game, I think the thing that stands apart for me is when you play as many games as he has, it takes a lot of sacrifice, dedication not only giving up your body and your life, but discipline.
“He’s been a great servant of our game, played at the highest level, and done some great things. To be honest with you, he’s playing good enough footy to go around again in the NRL. Good luck to him, but I’m sure he wants to finish the season off well and do a job before he goes.”
