Premier League newboys Hull City will face Stoke City in the second round of the Carabao Cup, after the draw was made on Monday evening ahead of the final tie of round one.
City will travel to the bet365 Stadium later this month for a clash against Championship opposition, looking to maintain their fine recent record in the Potteries, winning each of their last three league visits.
The Tigers won a fiesty affair at the end of November last season with Joe Gelhardt scoring a 90th-minute winner after Semi Ajayi had cancelled out Sorba Thomas’ fizzing first-half strike.
The game will fall in the first midweek of the top-flight season, coming after the opening day showdown against Manchester United and a trip to Coventry City.

City came into the competition at the second round stage owing to their Premier League status, but haven’t been past this stage since their League One title-winning campaign in 2020/21.
Grant McCann’s men won at Leeds United on penalties in round two, before ultimately going out at the Olympic Stadium against West Ham in round three.
The Tigers have failed to go beyond the third round in each of the nine seasons since they made it through to the semi-final in 2016/17, when they were beaten over two legs by Manchester United.
That semi-final appearance came the season after a quarter-final defeat to Manchester City, which remains their two best attempts in a competition where they’ve largely struggled to get beyond the third round.
Given the strain already on City’s squad, and the focus firmly being on staying in the Premier League, it’s likely Sergej Jakirovic could name a very different side to the one we see on the opening day against Manchester United.
Last term, Sergej Jakirovic’s men looked to be ending their hoodoo, with City leading 3-1 at Wreham only to concede twice in added time at the end of the game, and then go out on penalties.
Their tie with Mark Robins’ Potters will take place during the week beginning August 24, with full details regarding date, time and ticket information to be released in due course by both clubs.
