Premier League newboys Hull City are toying with the idea of loaning out Oscar Zambrano before the transfer window closes at the beginning of September.

Zambrano only joined the club during City’s pre-season training camp in Maribor last month, and played in the first two friendlies of the summer, showing glimpses of why the club have invested so much time and money in him over the past 24 months.

Unfortunately for the Ecuador midfielder, he’s picked up a hamstring injury which could keep him sidelined for at least the next couple of weeks, possibly as long as a month.

Given the lack of football Zambrano has played in the last couple of years owing to his 12-month doping ban, which was for an offence prior to his initial arrival on loan at the MKM Stadium back in summer 2024, it’s perhaps little surprise that he should sustain a muscle injury.

Assuming he can get over that issue and back to full fitness sooner rather than later, the club are considering loaning out the 22-year-old midfielder in a bid to get him playing regular football, Hull Live understands.

Zambrano, who penned an initial four-year contract plus a 12-month option when he sealed his permanent move from Maribor, is viewed by the club as a player with significant potential, and one they want to see develop. A fruitful loan spell is thought to be key to that potential being fulfilled.

Any decision on a loan move for Zambrano will depend on what the Tigers can achieve in the transfer market over the next couple of weeks. If City can land all of their targets in the midfield engine room, then it’s likely his temporary exit will be sanctioned. If those targets do not arrive, then Zambrano is likely to be kept around the first team squad.

Jens Hjertø-Dahl is one of those arrivals, and he made his Tigers debut in Saturday’s penultimate friendly of the summer away in Frankfurt.
