- Free range egg unit gets approved by councillors: East Riding Council ‘s eastern area planning sub-committee unanimously gave the green light to a free range egg laying unit on agricultural land near Burton Pidsea in Holderness. Cattle Holderness Ltd applied to create a free range egg unit that will have capacity for 32,000 egg-laying hens and result in the creation of two full-time jobs. An application document noted all major UK retailers have committed to no longer sell colony cage eggs. Councillors were asked to look at it after Burton Pidsea Parish raised traffic concerns. A council officer had concluded the traffic generated would not represent a significant increase harmful to local residents. Cllr Nigel Wilkinson (Conservative – Howdenshire Ward) observed that compared to other chicken farm applications, “this is quite a small one compared to some”.
- University of Hull to develop padel courts: The university has applied to create three padel courts and refurbishing an existing tennis court at its Allam Sports Centre site off Inglemire Lane, Hull. The padel facilities would be split between two double courts and one single. “The provision of padel courts at the University of Hull will enhance the high-quality sporting and recreational facilities already available to both the university community and the wider public,” state Vanguard House Architects on the university’s behalf in a planning document.
- Approval for Bridlington supermarket car park expansion: Planning permission has been granted for Aldi to expand its car park at its John Street store in Bridlington. This will involve demolition of a vacant industrial building that used to be the home of Jewson’s. The supermarket car park’s size will increase from 78 space to 108. A planning document stated that currently at peak times it is often full.
- Dental surgery conversion permitted in Hull: Sanctum Suites Ltd has gained permission for the conversion of a shop in Anlaby Road, Hull, into a dental surgery. The former home of The Hair Loft hairdressers and a three-bed first-floor flat above will be turned into a dental surgery with three surgery rooms. The surgery’s expected opening hours will be between 7:30am-6:30pm, Monday to Friday, and it will support three full-time equivalent jobs.
