Hull FC centre Davy Litten has been linked with a move to Wakefield Trinity.
Jon Wilkin believes Hull FC would have ‘lost the plot’ if they sell homegrown player Davy Litten to Wakefield Trinity.
Reports emerged this week that Hull and Wakefield have agreed a six-figure fee for Litten, with the player now going through personal terms with the West Yorkshire club ahead of what would be a multi-year deal.
Both clubs have remained tight-lipped on the situation, with Wilkin, speaking on Sky Sports, stating that Hull should keep hold of the outside back, who is still only 23-years-old and with over 60 Super League games to his name.
“If they sell Davy Litten, then Hull FC have lost the plot and they don’t understand what they are as a club,” Wilkin said. “They’ve developed a homegrown player who shows passion, intent and an interest in playing for the club that he grew up supporting and he does it with so much vim and vigour.
“If you want to sell him, if you want to get rid of him, then what does that say to your fans because the Hull FC fans have been epic in their support?
“Selling Davy Litten sets off alarm bells for me. You sell Davy Litten, who is the one guy who has stood up for you, him and Zak Hardaker. It’s a wild decision.
“It must be commercially driven because if you could keep him, you would keep him because he is Hull FC. He’s everything you want. He’s a Jez Litten, he’s a Mikey Lewis, he’s a Jack Welsby, he’s a Harry Robertson, he’s a Jack Farrimond, he’s a Junior Nsemba.”
Wilkin also commented on Herman Ese’ese, who has also been linked by Sky Sports with a move away from the club.
Sky presenter Brian Carney stated pre-match that Thursday’s game at St Helens could well be his final appearance for the club, with a move coming to a Super League rival in the imminent future.
“I thought Herman Ese’ese would make a huge difference at Hull FC,” Carney said. “But I think this will be his last game for Hull FC.
“He’s got suitors and one of the clubs that’s in for Herman Ese’ese (speculated to be Leeds Rhinos) will make jaws drop right because it’s not at the bottom of the table.”
On the prop, who returned to the Hull side at Saints after tonsillitis ruled him out of the Huddersfield game last week, Wilkin added: “I think Herman Ese’ese, if he gets fit and gets himself conditioned, is a threat. The reality is he’s not fit now. He’s nowhere near match fit.”
