A Battle of Britain memorial flypast is among the highlights of the fundraising event

A spectacular flying display, family entertainment and a demonstration of lifesaving work carried out by Humber Rescue will be on show this weekend at Hessle Foreshore. The lifeboat charity is hosting its annual open day on Sunday (August 9) with highlights including a Battle of Britain memorial flight flypast at 3pm, followed by a display from the Global Stars Aerobatic Team.
Visitors are told to expect a packed programme from 10am, with lifeboat rescue demonstrations, a birds of prey display, a police dog display, an emergency vehicle showcase and a tractor parade with about 40 vehicles. For families, the entertainment will include bouncy castles, face painting, a tug of war, a sack race and live music throughout the day, alongside a wide range of food and drink vendors, a licensed bar, and stalls from local traders and makers.
The event is expected to attract about 20,000 people and will also see representation from Humber Rescue’s partner emergency services and community organisations, including Humberside Police and its Marine Unit, Humberside Fire & Rescue, Yorkshire Ambulance Service, Hull Coastguard Rescue Team and British Transport Police.
The Deep and Sam’s Army Mission 1 Life will also be on site, promoting water safety messages to visitors. Sam’s Army’s work is carried out in memory of Sam, whose name led The Mirror’s ‘Save Lives for Sam’ campaign for stronger open-water safety, publicly backed by the Prime Minister in June 2026.
East Yorkshire Buses are providing free shuttle buses to the site, running from Hull Interchange and Priory Park & Ride – with visitors encouraged to leave their cars behind where possible. Additional parking will also be available at the Humber Bridge Car Park, Hessle High School and Hessle Rugby Club.

This is set to be our biggest Open Day yet, and it’s completely free for everyone to come and enjoy. I want to say a huge thank you to the local businesses who have so generously offered their support to make this event possible.
“A particular thank you must go to East Yorkshire Buses, who are providing free travel to the event — a real draw for so many families, and something that makes the day accessible to everyone, regardless of how they get here. We can’t wait to welcome the community down to the foreshore for a fantastic day out, all in support of keeping our independent lifeboat charity on the water.”
Humber Rescue’s important work serving the Humber Estuary is entirely reliant on public donations. The open day is a key part of that fundraising.
