Hundreds of homes are without power this afternoon parts of East Yorkshire as a fire and a downed power line caused Northern Powergrid to cut electricity supplies.

Northern Powergrid told residents that 860 properties were affected, with reports of power line down and a fire. The power is expected to be out until around 3.30pm but the outage could be extended by emergency services, if they feel it is necessary.

According to the Northern Powergrid’s power cuts map, at 1.51pm, power was switched off in Brandesburton “in the interest of safety”. At 1.55pm, an update read: “Our team have identified what’s caused the power cut and are working to get your power back on”.

The map said restoration was expected between 3pm and 4pm on Tuesday. Outages appeared to be concentrated in Brandesburton but homes in nearby Catfoss, Leven, Seaton, Burshill and Nunkeeling were also affected.
