Two drivers have been fined for “repeatedly sounding their horns” on Hessle Foreshore. The area is subject to a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) that was introduced to address “ongoing anti-social behaviour and vehicle-related nuisance during late evening and early morning hours”.
One of the conditions prohibits unnecessary use of horns where it is likely to cause annoyance, alarm or distress to others.
East Riding Of Yorkshire Council say, at around 12.05am on Saturday, June 13, two motorists were “observed by police officers repeatedly sounding their vehicle horns without reasonable cause”. This “caused disturbance and annoyance to local residents”.
Both of the drivers were issued with Fixed Penalty Notices for breaching the PSPO.
Councillor Lyn Healing, Cabinet Member for Communities and Public Protection, said: “We are committed to tackling anti-social behaviour and protecting the quality of life of local communities. Public Space Protection Orders play a key role ensuring that our communities remain a good place to live, and we will continue to undertake enforcement action against individuals who breach them.”
