‘The ideas and opinions of the public are crucial to shaping the new Local Plan’

The people of Hull are being urged to help shape the city’s future as the next phase of the new Local Plan gets under way. Those who live, work, study or own businesses and land in Hull are invited to make their opinions known on the plan. The Local Plan directly affects thousands of lives in the city through housing, jobs, the environment and transport – all of day-to-day life.
Following on from last year’s consultation, which gave the opportunity for the public to share their priorities for the city, Hull City Council wants now to understand which priority should be focused on first.
This could be tackling climate change, meeting diverse housing needs, supporting healthcare or creating opportunities for all. The current Local Plan for Hull was created in 2017 and the city has undergone significant change in that period, with the new proposals set to shape its future over the next 15 years.
Cllr Paul Drake-Davis, portfolio holder for economic renewal and housing at the council, said: “The Local Plan will directly affect the lives of everyone in Hull for many years to come. The ideas and opinions of the public are crucial to shaping the new Local Plan to ensure we meet the priorities of those in our city.
“I urge everyone with a connection to Hull to take part in the public engagement exercise.”

The Local Plan’s public consultation is now under way and will run for six weeks. As part of the consultation, the council’s project team will be at events to offer information and provide support to those wishing to fill in the survey.
The first will be at University of Hull on Thursday July 16 from 9am to 1pm as part of the Water & Coasts Community Event in Brynmor Jones Library.
A further event will be staged at the King George V Beach Day on King George V Playing Field, HU6 8NR, on Friday July 24 from 10am to 4pm and Friends of Alderman Kneeshaw Park’s family fun day on Saturday August 15 from 11am to 2pm, HU9 4DZ.
Further dates will be added in the coming weeks and those participating in the survey can also enter a prize draw to with up to £100 in high street shopping vouchers.
People completing the survey on a smartphone or tablet are recommended to hold the device in landscape to make viewing and completing the survey easier.
