A round-up of recent notable planning developments in East Riding, including planning approval in Bridlington that will massively increase the number of dental appointments in the town

Latest planning developments in East Riding
- Huge boost for dental services in Bridlington: Bridlington has been dubbed a ‘dental desert’, with limited access to provision locally. But this is set to change as planning approval has been granted to East Riding Council‘s plan to convert Crown Community Centre offices, off Quay Road, into a dental practice. The practice would have 17 surgeries, with the possibility of some audiology work also offered. My Dentist is the intended occupant and transforming the offices into a large dental practice will enable it to deliver approximately 1,700 appointments per week, of which around 840 will be NHS patients. This compares to the 450 mostly private appointments My Dentist currently delivers in the coastal resort. The approved vision for the transformation of Crown Community Centre includes turning the area into a ‘Live Well Campus’, and existing use by voluntary community and social enterprises to continue. Once the transformation occurs, the building will go from hosting 41 jobs, including 13 full-time, to 82, including 62 full-time.
- Former Goole social club could be turned into four apartments: A proposal has been made to convert the former RAOB Club in Chapel Street, Goole, into four two-bed apartments. The two-storey building has stood empty for at least five years. “Converting the former RAOB Club into modern homes removes a prominent eyesore and replaces it with a high quality residential development,” state Gallagher Planning on behalf of applicant Bremcoda Ltd.
- Hot food takeaway planned at vacant Bridlington shop unit: A long-vacant shop in Bridlington, could be getting a new lease of life. A planning application has been submitted for a hot food takeaway at 16 Bridge Street. The takeaway would employ three staff, two full-time. The premises has in years past been an Oxfam shop and a ladies fashion store. The application form suggests indicative opening hours of 11am to 11pm for the takeaway.
- Planning consent for major solar farm: Undoubtedly the biggest planning development in East Riding this week is a decision on Peartree Hill Solar Farm. RWE have been granted a development consent order (DCO) for it. The 891 hectare solar farm will be located on land east of Beverley. The group ERASE (East Riding Against Solar Expansion) has vowed to continue the fight against it. Read More.
