Where disruption is possible on the roads around the city

Motorists across Hull are being advised to plan their journeys ahead of time as Hull City Council and local utility companies roll out a schedule of roadworks over the coming days and weeks.
The update, detailed in the council’s weekly traffic and travel briefing, includes infrastructure overhauls, essential utility maintenance, and ongoing core structural investigations. Traffic management measures ranging from multi-way temporary signals to full road closures will be implemented across several key routes.
Among the most notable disruption is the ongoing full closure of Drypool Bridge for vital repair and strengthening works, alongside major highway improvements on Alfred Gelder Street – both expected to last until late July.
A breakdown of the active and upcoming roadworks scheduled to impact the city beyond July 4 includes:
- Alfred Gelder Street: Highway improvement works are ongoing between Lowgate and Drypool Bridge. A full road closure is in place from June 15, 2026, and is expected to last until late July 2026.
- Ark Royal: Utility works by Northern Gas Networks will require multi-way signals from July 13, 2026, until July 31, 2026.
- Arnold Lane: O2 will be carrying out utility works under multi-way signals from July 6, 2026, to July 10, 2026.
- Ashcombe Road: Footway excavations to connect gas, water, and electricity services for a new housing development will cause disruption. Multi-way signals will be in place from July 6, 2026, to July 17, 2026.
- Barnes Way: Similar utility service excavations for a new development will see multi-way signals deployed from July 6, 2026, to July 17, 2026.
- Beverley Road: Yorkshire Water will carry out manhole repairs opposite 1 Desmond Avenue under multi-way signals on July 6, 2026.
- Carden Avenue: Northern Powergrid utility works are currently underway with multi-way signals, running from June 16, 2026, through to July 14, 2026.
- Commercial Road: Hull City Council will undertake road core investigatory work using multi-way signals on July 7, 2026.
- County Road South: Core investigatory works by the council from numbers 109 to 135 will require two-way signals on July 8, 2026.
- Drypool Bridge: The full closure of the bridge to all vehicles and pedestrians remains in place for major repair and strengthening works. The closure began in May 2026 and is slated to continue until late July 2026.
- Ennerdale: Long-term roundabout improvement works by Hull City Council is expected to see a lane closure remain in effect until October 29, 2026.
- Hessle Road (MS3 Works): Utility works will continue under multi-way signals from June 15, 2026, through to July 10, 2026.
- Hessle Road (Council Works): Road core investigations will require a lane closure from Hessle Road to the Rawling Way roundabout between July 17, 2026, and July 18, 2026.
- Holderness Road: Overnight structure de-vegetation for detailed examination by Network Rail will prompt multi-way signals between 10pm and 6am, running from July 17, 2026, to July 18, 2026.
- Jarrett Street: Installation of district heating pipework for the Hull District Heat Network requires a three-phase road closure between Bond Street and Worship Street. The works span from May 26, 2026, to July 17, 2026.
- Logan Close: BT utility works at the junction of Midmere Avenue will operate with multi-way signals from June 29, 2026, to July 10, 2026.
- Madeley Street: Road core investigatory work will see a lane closure from Fisherman’s Walk to the Rawling Way/Hessle Road roundabout on July 8, 2026.
- Manchester Street: Northern Powergrid utility works from Hessle Road to the Asda car park will result in a road closure from July 6, 2026, until August 1, 2026.
- Marfleet Lane: Ongoing Northern Powergrid utility works at the junction of Barham Road will utilise two-way signals from May 26, 2026, to July 6, 2026.
- Porter Street: Yorkshire Water utility works near 186 Porter Street will see two-way signals in place from July 14, 2026, to July 26, 2026.
- Ryehill Grove: Two-way signals will be active opposite number 37 for Yorkshire Water utility works from July 6, 2026, to July 10, 2026.
- Shannon Road: Council road core investigations will take place under multi-way signals on July 7, 2026.
- Stoneferry Road: Utility connection works for the Stagecoach bus depot will require a lane closure from Withernsea Street to Foster Street between July 13, 2026, and July 15, 2026.
- Wawne Road Roundabout: A major council improvement scheme connecting Bude Road, Wawne Road, and Holwell Road keeps a full road closure in place from May 8, 2026, until August 6, 2026.
