Kyle Joseph will not be moving to Championship side Middlesbrough after his move to Teesside from newly-promoted Hull City fell through.
Joseph had agreed terms on a £5m move to the Riverside Stadium earlier this week, with the move set to go through before June 30, which would have helped City‘s bid to avoid any Financial Fair Play punishment, but it stalled on Wednesday with all parties trying to resurrect the deal. That hasn’t been possible, and will not happen, at least for the time being.
As it was, City sold Ivor Pandur to Rangers, Aidon Shehu to Panathinaikos and Akin Famewo to Bolton Wanderers, which ensured they were well clear.
City have moved to keep Joseph at the MKM Stadium and will continue to support him in his recovery from ankle surgery, which saw him miss the play-off final victory over Boro at Wembley, having been hurt in the semi-final win away at Millwall.

As it stands, Joseph is expected to return in around a month’s time and will remain as part of Sergej Jakirovic’s squad and prepare for life in the Premier League.
A move away from City later in the transfer window cannot be ruled out, but the Tigers are happy to keep the popular 24-year-old around the squad.
Joseph was one of the club’s stand-out performers last season, scoring seven Championship goals and racking up five assists to help the Tigers claim a play-off place, before they eventually beat Boro in the final.
Despite being unable to play in the final, Joseph, who signed in a £2.5m deal from Blackpool in January 2025, celebrated on the Wembley pitch at full-time with the rest of his teammates.
