The East Riding Leisure Haltemprice pitch has opened on the back of £2.1m funding

A pitch perfect launch event has boosted community sport in the East Riding, following a £2.1m investment. A new full-size 3G football pitch has now been completed and opened at East Riding Leisure Haltemprice – a project made possible thanks to the multimillion-pound cash injection.
The funding includes £975,000 from the Premier League, The FA and the Government’s Football Foundation and further contributions from East Riding of Yorkshire Council. Civic leaders hailed the ambitious scheme for kickstarting significant long-term benefits for the local community, while also supporting increased access to and participation in football across the area.
The official opening of the pitch took place on Monday, June 29, where representatives from East Riding of Yorkshire Council, East Riding County Football Association, Football Foundation, Hessle Sporting Football Club, Hessle Rangers Football Club, Priory Football Club and the Walking Football Team from Hessle Sporting gathered.
Three local football clubs – Hessle Sporting, Hessle Rangers and Priory – have teamed up with the council to seal regular usage slots on the pitch. The site is already well used for both affiliated and recreational football, and council bosses said the new pitch will enhance provision, including supporting the introduction of new opportunities such as disability football.
The Local Football Facilities Plan had identified a shortfall of 3G Football Turf Pitches (FTPs) in the Haltemprice area, driven by high demand from affiliated grassroots clubs. The new facility more than meets that need, supporting the recently developed Playing Pitch Strategy as well as providing grassroots support and serving as a dedicated girls’ football hub, helping the continued growth of the women’s and girls’ game locally.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council has led the sporting project, which includes a full-size floodlit 3G Football Turf Pitch, additional car parking and a new changing facility.

It represents a significant investment in local sport and will provide a high-quality facility for players of all ages and abilities.
“As a weather-resilient surface, the 3G pitch will ensure year-round access and reduce disruption caused by poor ground conditions. This will make a real difference to grassroots football in the area, helping more people to stay active and enjoy the game.”
