The Robins will be missing a number of players this weekend against Hull FC
Hull KR look set to be without Tom Amone for the next two weeks, head coach Willie Peters has confirmed.
The Rovers prop clashed heads with Dean Hadley inside the first five minutes of Friday’s clash with Leeds Rhinos, ensuring both players had to leave the field for a head injury assessment.
Unlike Hadley, Amone passed his HIA and he was allowed to return to the field despite having a big welt under his eye.
However, Amone’s face swelled up after the game and that prompted a hospital visit and x-ray confirmed that the forward had fractured his eye socket in the collision with his teammate.
As such, he will miss the Hull derby this week but he isn’t expected to spend too long on the sidelines.
“He’s got a fractured eye socket so he’ll be two games we think,” Peters said. “He did well, it was brave of him to keep playing on.
“He went for scans afterwards because he blew his nose and it started swelling up and got worse so he had to go hospital.”
There is a little bit more uncertainty regarding Hadley, though, with the forward failing a second HIA in less than a month on Friday. As such, he will see a specialist later this week to assess his condition before any decision will be made on when he can return to action.
“We’ll have to see the specialist to see but Dean wasn’t too bad, he had no symptoms afterwards, it was just a call that was made,” Peters added. “He could be [stood down], it’s out of our hands now, it’s going to be with the specialist. We’ll find out Friday.”
Peters did confirm that Jez Litten and Sauaso Sue would play this week after overcoming their respective ankle and shoulder injuries. However, Joe Burgess won’t be involved as he battles with the shoulder injury he picked up against Leigh Leopards a fortnight ago.
“It’s just a pain tolerance thing,” Peters said on Burgess. “It’s up to Joe now when he’s ready to play. Players come back at different stages non that injury, some play the weekend after, so it’s just going to be when Joe feels fit to play.”
Six weeks have now passed since Arthur Mourgue was ruled out with a pec injury for the second time this season and Peters outlined his optimism that the Frenchman could be set for a return to action sooner rather than later.
“Yeah he’s getting on well,” the head coach said on Mourgue. “Hopefully in the next couple of weeks, I’ll be able to give you more next week.”
