Hull City are in talks with Belgian defender Thomas Meunier over a surprise move to the MKM Stadium, as the club looks to ramp up its transfer business ahead of the new Premier League season.
The experienced campaigner, who has played for clubs including Paris St Germain and Borussia Dortmund, is currently away at the World Cup and preparing for Belgium’s huge clash with New Zealand on Saturday as they look to spark an underwhelming campaign into life and secure a victory that would see them progress into the last 32.
Meunier has amassed more than 500 appearances in some of Europe’s top clubs, as well as 82 caps for his country, and is understood to be keen on a move to the MKM Stadium and link up with Sergej Jakirovic’s Tigers.
At the age of 34, City view the defender as a player who can have a big impact on the field and in the dressing room, and a deal is possible with talks underway.

Meunier, who operates at right-back but can also be deployed in midfield, has spent the last three years with Lille in France, but is out of contract on Tuesday, and would therefore be available on a free transfer.
His arrival would represent quite a significant coup for the Tigers, who are busy on a host of potential deals as they look to make their first signing since winning promotion at Wembley just over a month ago.
During a storied career, Meunier has won three French titles, as well as three French Cups and three French League Cups, plus other honours in Germany and his native Belgium.
City have been keen to add a player with similar gravitas to what Sunderland did with Granit Xhaka last summer, and Meunier’s impressive CV would certainly fit the bill.
A deal is not yet complete, but according to Belgium football reporter, Sacha Tavolieri, it is moving closer. The Tigers will hope to get it wrapped up as soon as possible.
