Partnership working helps to restore civic pride

East Riding Council is working alongside Bridlington Ambassadors, a community interest campaign, and community voluntary group Brightening Up Bridlington (BUB), to improve properties in the town. The ambassadors created a Property Pride campaign, rolled out across the core town centre streets.
It identified 39 properties as being run down and needing remedial works, to help rebuild civic pride. Two thirds of those properties have already responded positively to letters of encouragement, backed up where necessary by contacts made through the planning enforcement team.
Consequently, a growing number of properties have already been improved, are currently undergoing restoration, or have works planned. Improvements include better frontages.
The campaign is part of the Clear Hold Build scheme, a multi-agency effort to tackle serious and organised crime and anti-social behaviour in the Bridlington area. East Riding Council’s planning enforcement and anti-social behaviour teams are playing a key role, alongside Humberside Police and other agencies.
The work is starting to show real results, with two semi-derelict properties revamped to improve them temporarily until new buyers can be found. Monthly volunteer litter picks have also been undertaken by BUB since 2014, in areas known to attract rubbish, while the ambassadors are now running an eyesore audit, to highlight and prompt rectification of some long-term problem commercial properties.
