East Riding Community Foundation Trust Annual Eid Celebration also highlighted the achievements of young people

Community leaders, public officials, faith representatives and residents from across the East Riding were brought together at a special Eid gathering recently. Scores attended the Annual Eid Celebration staged by the East Riding Community Foundation Trust (ERCFT) at the Lazaat Hotel in Cottingham.
The event was said to be the culmination of a series of community gatherings held throughout the year and gave an opportunity for people from diverse backgrounds to come together in the spirit of friendship, understanding and community cohesion.
Guests included cllrr Linda Johnson, chairman of East Riding of Yorkshire Council; Neil Sanderson, the High Sheriff of the East Riding of Yorkshire; Emma Hardy MP; James Dick, the Vice Lord-Lieutenant of the East Riding of Yorkshire; senior representatives from Humberside Police including chief inspector Samantha Bowley and communities cohesion officer Daniel Fleming. They joined local councillors, faith leaders, community organisations and residents from across Hull and the East Riding.
Awards and trophies were presented to young people to celebrate achievements in academic excellence, entrepreneurship, leadership and community involvement, recognising those who have demonstrated exceptional dedication, ambition and a commitment to making a positive impact. Adam Azhar, 11, was among them – awarded for his active participation in community activities and helping at numerous events.
Organisers at the charity said: “The celebration reflected ERCFT’s ongoing commitment to strengthening relationships between communities and creating opportunities for meaningful dialogue and engagement. Throughout the afternoon, attendees shared experiences, discussed common challenges and explored ways in which organisations and individuals can continue working together to build stronger and more connected communities.
“This year’s theme, “connecting communities, creating change, bringing people together, breaking barriers forever,” was evident throughout the event, with speakers highlighting the importance of mutual respect, understanding and active participation in community life.”
Cllr Johnson praised the efforts of local volunteers and community organisations in their fostering of social cohesion and supporting residents across the region. Meanwhile, representatives from Humberside Police reaffirmed their commitment to community engagement and partnership working, recognising the value of events such as this in strengthening trust and understanding between communities.
The event also celebrated the contribution of volunteers, local charities and community groups whose work throughout the year helps bring people together and supports some of the most vulnerable members of society. ERCFT extended its gratitude to all guests, volunteers, supporters and partner organisations who contributed to the success of the event.
