Plans for 25 new affordable homes in east Hull have been approved by Hull City Council. The homes are set to be built on land next to Hull KR’s Craven Park.
The 25 homes, all of which are set to be affordable, will be accessed from Hemswell Avenue. The homes will be built on the land of the former Newton Hall school site, part of which is still in use as Sir Isaac Newton House.
Documents explain the homes are to be built for a social care provider. A council report, which recommended the approval of the plans said: “The proposal would provide a choice of housing to meet needs and contribute to supporting a strong vibrant and healthy local community being within easy walking distance of facilities.”

The project will include the reconstruction of the road that serves Sir Isaac Newton House. The road will be extended westwards to provide access to the new homes.
The 25 properties will be bungalows. Some will be simple, single-storey bungalows whilst others will be dormer style. The homes will be built using red brick, to match the existing properties on Hemswell Avenue. The properties will have grey slate tiled roofs.
The homes will border the site of the planned Craven Park sports village. The major development would include shops such as Aldi and Home Bargains, as well as a padel club and various other features. Hull KR say the ambitious plans are part of their aim to become “the biggest rugby club in the northern hemisphere.”
