The farm shop and pick you own site is on the market for £600,000 weeks after the company behind it collapsed

An East Yorkshire farm shop has been put up for sale with a six-figure price tag after the business collapsed with the loss of 20 jobs. The much-loved farm shop, restaurant and pick-your-own attracted people from around the region and beyond, eager to stock up on its locally-sourced sweet treats, meats and other goodies from its deli, dairy and butchers counters.

It also ran a cafe business which served up everything from rice, vegetarian and fish & chip dishes to roast dinners. However, Spuds & Berries Ltd, on Hull Road near Howden, was put into liquidation earlier this year by its directors amid financial struggles.

Business advisors at Redman Nichols Butler, based in Driffield, were put in charge of the firm’s liquidation at the end of April. Now, estate agents at Garness Jones have been enlisted to find a buyer for the farm shop building and its surrounding land.

Marketing materials for the business, which had been trading for 10 years, show the freehold is on the market for offers in the region of £600,000. The sale includes the restaurant which has a minimum of 52 covers and an “excellent” catering kitchen. It also has car parking space for around 30 vehicles.

The property agents highlight that the property could also be suitable for alternative uses. Spuds & Berries is described on the Garness Jones website as a well-established business on the busy A63.

The firm says: “The site benefits from existing retail accommodation and associated infrastructure, providing a ready-made opportunity for an incoming operator.

“In addition to its current use, the property may lend itself to a range of alternative uses, subject to the necessary planning consents. Potential uses could include farm diversification enterprises, rural retail, food and beverage, or other commercial uses appropriate to its setting.”
