The rovers coach steps out at Wembley for the final time today

Willie Peters says today’s Challenge Cup final is all about his Hull KR team going to the next phase of greatness. The quadruple winners and reigning Cup holders step out against Wigan Warriors at Wembley Stadium this afternoon looking to win their fifth successive major trophy and in doing so maintaining their current tight grip on the Challenge Cup.

For PNG Chief-bound Peters and some of his players, including the retiring Rhyse Martin, it represents a last chance to taste Wembley glory and add to the history they have already created in the famous old competition.

While much of the attention may be on the departing Peters, with some of his players having spoken this week about wanting to win the trophy for their departing coach, Peters says in no way is the game about him. The Aussie insists it is about his side moving to the next step in this period of dominance and ensuring the game is won for the east Hull community, not any individual.

“This game is a lot bigger than me, it is a lot bigger than Rhyse, it is about the fanbase and community we play for every week,” Peters told Hull Live.

“It is about this team going to the next phase of greatness. Not many teams can say they have won back to back Challenge Cups.

“Every time I sit in that box I get the same feeling and that is a sense of how proud I am to be coach of Hull KR. Nothing will change in this game.

“There is a lot to do before the end of the season. This is a huge game, but I am not looking at it as anything different. What we did so well last year was keep ticking off the trophies and not think about it until the end of the year.”
