The half-back has been linked with a return to Hull FC.

Marc Sneyd will not be returning to Hull FC, Hull Live has been told.

Reports have emerged this week that the double Challenge Cup winner is in line to return to the Black and Whites after falling out of favour at Warrington Wolves. However, Hull Live understands that isn’t the case, with Hull distancing themselves from their former half-back.

Sneyd played for Hull for seven seasons between 2015 and 2021, playing an instrumental role in their 2016 and 2017 Challenge Cup wins. The 35-year-old left the club at the end of 2021, signing for Salford Red Devils and receiving an England call up the following year.

He has spent the last one and half seasons at Warrington Wolves but has been in and out of the team in recent weeks and is out of contract at the end of the season. That has prompted speculation on his future, with suggestions that Hull have come in for their former player, but that isn’t the case.

In fact, Warrington are still to come to a decision on Sneyd’s future themselves, with the club signing Leeds Rhinos star Brodie Croft for the 2027 season and beyond. They also have highly rated Ewan Irwin on the books and Leon Hayes – a fact Wire head coach Sam Burgess commented on last week.

“For now on contract there is Brodie, Leon and Ewan,” Burgess said. “I think between the three of those guys that are on contract, they’re more than capable of getting a job done.

“We’re still yet [to decide] with Marc – decide whether we want experience around as well. It’s not something we’ll make a decision on now, but as the year unfolds, it might be something we look to do.”

Of course, Hull made a move for Sneyd last year while he was still a Salford player. That pursuit was well documented at the time, with Hull sounding out a replacement for Jordan Abdull amid the Red Devils’ financial difficulties. Ultimately, an agreement wasn’t reached and Hull instead signed Will Pryce a couple of months later.

As for recruitment this year, Hull have made no secret that they are on the lookout for new players, and that remains the case. The club have looked at several options following an injury disrupted season, not to mention the departure of Liam Knight and season-ending injury to Pryce.

Unfortunately, other than loan moves for Leeds Rhinos players Ethan O’Neill, Jeremiah Mata’utia and Harry Newman (the latter was recalled two weeks ago), they have found no viable solutions, with the club keen not to fill their squad with ‘stop gaps’ and instead recruitment that can benefit them in 2027 as well as 2026. That search remains active, with Andy Last confirming as much in recent press conferences.

Meanwhile, the club have appointed Steve McNamara as their head coach for 2027 and beyond, with the Hull-born coach working in tandem with CEO Richie Myler to build their squad for next season. They have acquired Bailey Hodgson so far, capping a return to East Yorkshire for the Hull-born full-back, and are determined to follow suit with similar signings later this year.
