A Hull FC back has been suspended.

Hull FC outside back Roman Dawson has landed a hefty suspension from the RFL’s Match Review Panel following an incident in last weekend’s reserves game at Leigh Leopards.

Dawson, who has recovered from back to back ACL injuries to take his place in the reserves side this year, has been handed a Grade F charge for punching. He has received 35 penalty points, a fine, and most consequently, a five-match suspension.

The ban will ruled Dawson out of Hull’s final reserves games against Huddersfield Giants and Castleford Tigers next month. The reserve season concludes in June, with players then traditionally heading out on loan in the Championship to finish the year.

Dawson, who has been carefully managed this year as he returns to full fitness, could go down that route following completion of his ban. He would have served his suspension come July and could play through until September. He is out of contract at Hull at the end of the season.

Elsewhere, young prop forward Joe Phillips has also been charged with a Grade B offence for ‘head contact’, receiving three penalty points and a fine. Phillips was Hull’s 18th man at the Super League game the night before the reserves clash.

Hull lost the game at Leigh 52-30. They led 22-10 at the break.

Meanwhile, Yusuf Aydin still has five games to go on his suspension. He was handed a six-match ban for a dangerous tackle on Bradford Bulls full-back Caleb Aekins earlier this month.
