Hull KR will play in the Challenge Cup final this Saturday
Liam Moore will be the man in the middle this weekend when Hull KR face off against Wigan Warriors at Wembley Stadium.
The two sides will go head to head for the second time in nine days on Saturday afternoon with the Challenge Cup on the line this weekend.
Rovers hosted a young Wigan side on Thursday night with Matt Peet opting to wrap his star players up in cotton wool ahead of the final, while Willie Peters went full strength. It was a one-sided game on the scoreboard, with KR winning 62-4, but it wasn’t without it’s fiery moments with Sam Eseh kickstarting a brawl at one point for a reckless challenge on Ryan Hampshire.
Indeed, generally there is no love lost between Rovers and Wigan as the rivalry between them develops and grows and Saturday’s referee will have to be on top of things from the start.
It promises to be a high quality final, but it could also be feisty and given Moore’s experience, he seems to be the most logical choice.
This will be the 30-year-old’s fourth Cup final, having officiated last year’s event and consecutive finals in 2020 and 2021.
In what could be seen as a good omen for the Robins, Moore was also the man in charge of last year’s Grand Final and the World Club Challenge.
He’ll be helped by video referee Chris Kendall, while Marcus Griffiths and Mark Craven will run the lines and Jack Smith will serve as the reserve.
Aaron Moore will also be in action next weekend as he takes charge of the women’s final between Wigan Warriors and St Helens.
This will be the third straight year Moore has taken charge of the women’s Challenge Cup final, with the same two opponents going head to head last year.
Liam Rush will be the video referee for that one, while Tara Jones will be on hand as the reserve.
