Mourgue left the field injured on his first game back after a three-month lay-off.

Willie Peters has confirmed Arthur Mourgue has injured his pec once more but the Hull KR boss remains hopeful that it’s not a recurrence.

Mourgue was making his return to the Rovers side this evening as KR took on and beat Leigh Leopards 20-16 at Leigh Sports Village.

The Frenchman spent three months on the sidelines with the ruptured pec he sustained in the World Club Challenge in February, but marked his return to the side by scoring what would turn out to be the decisive try of the game at the end of the first half.

However, with around 18 minutes left on the clock, Mourgue stretched his arm in the act of trying to tackle a Leigh player and instantly felt pain.

The Rovers medical team rushed to his side and he eventually left the field with his arm wrapped up in his shirt as a makeshift sling.

Peters confirmed after the game that Mourgue has picked up a pec injury, but he couldn’t be certain how severe the injury was.

“We’re hoping not,” Peters said when asked if it was a recurrence. “He needs to get scans but there’s not a great deal I can say. There is a possibility that it’s not but it could be.

“Let’s just wait and see what it but I just hope it’s not what he had last time.”

Karl Lawton picked up what looked to be a severe nose injury in the early stages of the contest but managed to play on with his nose strapped up.

Speaking on that issue, Peters added: “He was a handsome man before the game but he’s pretty sore, that’s for sure. It’s a tough game and that was physical. That’s why we love it. It’s not nice when you see players breaking their noses but it’s part of the game but I’m proud of the way he carried on and he came back on in the second half and he did his job.

“Our physio and doctors need to have a good look at him. He got through today on adrenaline but let’s have a look and see how he is next week.”
