Hull City are looking to maintain their one hundred per cent record in the Championship play-offs and face Southampton at Wembley
Hull City are big underdogs to win the Championship play-off final against Southampton.
That’s according to the bookmakers who both doubt the Tigers’ chance of reaching the Premier League while having the Saints as odds-on for an immediate return.
Southampton were promoted to the top flight through the play-offs in 2024, when Russell Martin oversaw a Wembley victory over Leeds United.
They were relegated back to the Championship 12 months ago but after Tuesday night’s extra-time win against Middlesbrough they are on the brink of a second promotion in three seasons.
Indeed, at the time of publication, Betfair make them 8/11 favourites to beat City on May 23. By contrast City are long odds at 16/5 – a situation in which they seem to have been for most of the season.
That hasn’t stopped Sergej Jakirovic overcoming transfer restrictions at the start of the campaign and critics throughout it, with a 2-0 aggregate triumph over Millwall just the latest example of the Tigers upsetting the form book.
They now stand 90 minutes from regaining the Premier League status they lost in 2017.
