It is estimated the Domino’s takeaway would support 25 full-time equivalent jobs

Domino’s has applied for planning permission to convert a former bank in Barton-upon-Humber into a hot food takeaway. It would represent yet another Domino’s expansion in northern Lincolnshire.

The pizza chain has in the past year gained planning permission for and opened new stores in Brigg and more recently, Immingham. It now seeks its first takeaway in Barton, at the ground floor of 1-2 Market Place.

The unit it wants to convert has been vacant for almost two years. It was last occupied by Money Box, and before that, was a NatWest branch.

Its gross internal floor space would be 142m squared and a submitted drawing of the plans does not appear to indicate any dining space within it, meaning it would purely be a takeaway. Extraction and ventilation equipment installations are included in the plans, while a separate advertising consent application will be required for signage.

It is planned to be open between 11am and 11pm, daily. Staff would be recruited locally and it is estimated the Domino’s takeaway would support 25 full-time equivalent jobs. To help manage potential anti-social behaviour, there would be a visible store manager and CCTV, a planning document states.

If Domino’s plans get approval, it will face a fair amount of adjacent takeaway competition. Golden Bridge Chinese takeaway is only 20 metres away, Market Place Fish and Chips at the other end of the town’s Market Place, and Pizza King round the corner on George Street, to name just a few.

Residents have until June 4 to comment on the application made to North Lincolnshire Council. Generally, Domino’s is looking to expand the number of takeaways and restaurants it has. It opened its 1300th store in the UK last year and Domino’s aims to have 2,000 stores by 2033.
