City councillor had been taken ill a week before she died
Tributes have been paid to a dedicated Hull councillor following her sad death. A post by Hull Labour Councillors said: “It is with immense sadness we report the sad death last Friday lunchtime of our much loved brilliant friend and comrade Anita Harrison.
“Anita had been in hospital after being taken ill a week ago. A brilliant public servant, she passionately cared about the people of Hull, particularly her beloved Bransholme.
“We are shocked and the world today seems a more empty place without our Anita, a giant of our movement. Our love and thoughts are with her family, and details of her civic funeral will follow from the family in due course.”
Anita was the Labour representative of North Carr ward, which saw a Reform gain of the seat in the local elections held this week. When Anita held the seat for Labour in 2022, she said: “The Lib Dems said I was running out of steam. Well this old boiler has got loads of steam left.”
The post by the Hull Labour group prompted hundreds of comments and shares. Her sister Julie Bullock responded by saying: “I am devastated and will miss her greatly. She loved her work with a passion.”
Fellow councillor Daren Hale said: “So sad to have lost our Anita Harrison. A true friend and support to all she met. RIP, Anita, you and your family are in all our thoughts.”
Jamie Strudwick said: “On behalf of the Hull and East Riding Green Party, we want to extend our thoughts to Anita’s friends and family, as well as her colleagues within Hull Labour. We know how amazingly Anita worked as a councillor for North Carr, and we are really sorry to have learned this really sad news.”
Many spoke of the “staunch supporter” of the Bransholme community and of their fond memories of Anita. One person said: “Anita wasn’t just good at her job but she listened and was a people person. Thank you for what you did for me.”
Another said: “Sorry to hear this sad news. Anita was a great help to all on Bransholme when the floods came. Thanks for your service. God bless.”
Among the replies was one that said: “She served her ward above and beyond, the kind of councillor that did the job for the right reasons, working tirelessly for the people she represented and getting the job done. Condolences to Anita’s family and friends.”
