Talented cake creator Grace Hunt always impresses passers-by with her festive window displays, her showstopper replica of the Home Alone house almost breaking the internet last Christmas.
Now Grace, who owns Grace Eva Cakes, in North Bar Without, has turned her attention to a special centenarian, in baking and decorating a cake display in honour of David Attenborough. To mark his 100th birthday today (Friday, May 8) Grace has been busy creating a scene inspired by The Blue Planet, a hit BBC documentary series presented by Attenborough.
“It had to be a humpback whale,” she said. “It has David Attenborough sitting on top in a party hat with 100 on it.”

Grace has been known to suspend some of her amazing cakes in the window (The Snowman got to “fly” one Christmas) and she planned the same for the whale “so you can see all the barnacles and things underneath”. She said: “The whale can’t be all cake because gravity won’t allow it.”
Grace was originally planning a summer window display – they can take weeks to create – but left herself with a matter of days to come up with the marine scene honouring Attenborough. “It was The Blue Planet,” she said, “when you see something like that it completely changes something in you.”
Grace said she continues to be busy with customer orders for her special cakes and intricately-decorated biscuits. “I’ve been doing a lot in London, which is great,” she said. “It’s a completely different ballgame.
“A private chef got in touch with me for a sixth birthday. People are finding me on social media – I did a glitterball cake that went viral.”
