The council has received another application for new padel courts
East Riding Council has received plans for four new padel courts in Beverley. If approved, the courts would be established at Molescroft Farm, immediately north of the town.
Padel, which is described by the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) as “the fastest growing sport in the world,” is a racquet sport played on a court roughly half the size of a standard tennis court. The sport, which takes elements from both tennis and squash, is usually played in doubles, but can also be played in singles. The courts themselves are enclosed by mesh and glass walls.
Last month, the council also received plans for three padel courts at Norwood Recreation Park. That application would see two of the existing tennis courts there becoming padel courts.
The council has now received separate plans for Molescroft Farm. The application would see a piece of agricultural land being repurposed for the courts.

Plans submitted to the council explain that the land in question sits north of the existing nursery building. It is said the land is “relatively level, well-screened by mature boundary planting, and visually contained by existing buildings and landscape features.”
In addition to the four courts, the proposed development also includes a car park with 16 standard bays, two accessible bays, and a pair of EV charging points. The proposed hours for the padel site are 6am to 10pm. Access to the facility would come from Grange Lane, off Grange Way (A1035).
A nearby resident has submitted an objection to the plans on the council’s planning portal. Among the concerns raised by the local was the “repetitive gunshot sound of padel balls hitting the court, glass and mesh walls from early morning until late into the evening.”
The land where the padel development is proposed is adjacent to the land set aside for the proposed 40MW solar farm dubbed the ‘Molescroft Solar Farm.’ The farm would be capable of powering the equivalent of 23,945 homes.
