The move is to allow workers to complete ‘essential final phases of technology and lighting on the wider scheme’
New overnight closures to the A63 Castle Street in Hull have been announced as teams complete the final phases of the multimillion-pound upgrades. National Highways says a week of overnight east and westbound closures are required between Roger Millward Way and Daltry Street.
They will start on Monday, May 11 and finish on Friday, May 15 – lasting between 8pm to 6am each night. The move is to allow workers to complete “essential final phases of technology and lighting on the wider scheme”.
It comes after the opening of the new, split-level Mytongate junction after six years of works to create it. Vehicles can now use the new underpass and the junction connecting the A63 Ferensway and Commercial Road above it. However, further closures are needed to complete the project.
National Highways said in an update: “Main works are now coming to an end, but we will continue to update on any temporary overnight closures, if required, into the final stages of the scheme. The equipment we use means that some disturbance is unfortunately unavoidable, but we make every effort to minimise noise generated by the activity.
“We apologise for any disruption during the final phases of the scheme.”
The company also said that equipment used at the site will create noise, but that it works to minimise the impact.
National Highways says the project has been “one of the most complex engineering challenges in the UK”. Along with lowering the level of the A63 at Mytongate junction to allow continuous moment of traffic, a new connection has been created between Ferensway and Commercial Road.
The project has also seen the eastbound carriageway widened to three lanes between Princes Dock Street and Market Place. Road users are advised to follow the updated road signs, stay in lane, and take extra care while getting used to the alterations.
